Prevention Begins Before Intervention

The Prevention for Protection Initiative™ is SEACPA's permanent, year-round child sexual abuse prevention initiative.

Prevention is an ongoing commitment, not a single awareness campaign or a seasonal event.

It supports families, caregivers, child welfare professionals, educators, youth-serving organisations and community leaders through practical education and resources.

From Awareness to Prevention

1

Awareness

People become aware the issue exists.

2

Education

They gain the knowledge and skills to understand it.

3

Application

They put that knowledge into practice.

4

Prevention

As a result, children are better protected.

Knowledge alone is not prevention. Prevention happens when education becomes intentional action.

Prevention for Every Season

The Prevention for Protection Initiative™ operates throughout the year, meeting families and communities across different seasons and activities.

The Prevention for Protection Initiative™ was developed through SEACPA to move our communities beyond simply being aware of child sexual abuse and toward taking intentional steps to prevent it. Our goal is to educate, equip, and empower families, caregivers, and professionals with practical tools that help create safer environments for children.

Questions About the Initiative

Straight answers to what caregivers and professionals ask most before they start.

Is this only for the holiday season?

No — the Prevention for Protection Initiative™ runs year-round. The Holiday Edition is one seasonal layer on top of a permanent initiative: the framework, the education and the core resources stay available all year, and each season adds campaign-specific tools like the holiday guide and checklist.

Who is the initiative for?

It is built for anyone who helps keep a child safe. In practice that means: caregivers and parents; child welfare professionals; educators and school staff; youth-serving organisations and community leaders. Each audience gets practical education rather than general awareness messaging.

How do I use the Holiday Edition resources?

Start with the Holiday Child Protection Checklist — it is the quickest first step. Walk through it before a gathering or trip to spot the situations that need a plan. Then use the Holiday Child Protection Guide to work through the conversations and preparations in more depth, and the Family Child Protection Action Plan to write down who does what. The three are designed to be used together, in that order.

What ages is My Body's My Own written for?

Ages 4 to 8. That range means the adult reads it with the child rather than handing it over — the language and examples are pitched so a four-year-old can follow the story and an eight-year-old can ask the follow-up questions, with a caregiver there to answer them.

How often is the initiative updated?

Resources are refreshed each season. The Holiday Edition is updated ahead of the winter holidays, with the Back-to-School and Summer editions following the same pattern, so the tools stay matched to what families are actually navigating at that point in the year.

Are the resources free or paid?

It varies by resource — some materials are free to download and some are paid products. Each product page lists the current price and what is included, so check the individual resource page for the exact cost rather than relying on a figure quoted elsewhere.

Prevention begins with one intentional step.
